“54% of your employees think they’re good at using AI. Only 10% actually are.” – Greg Shove, CEO of Section.
Section surveyed over 5000 knowledge workers in US, UK and Canada in March this year, and tested them on their AI knowledge and prompting skills. The average score was a Fail – 39 out of 100.
I’m not surprised. I’ve observed that many people still use Gen AI at a very basic level, even if they have attended some form of training. For example, they don’t know they can reduce hallucinations by feeding reference data to ChatGPT.
I guess it’s like how we use Microsoft Word or Excel. These apps (Gen X calls them “programs”) have been around for three decades, yet most of us only know and use 10% of their capabilities. As long as they get the job done, it is good enough.
But it’s not the same for Gen AI apps. They can do so much more than a word processor or spreadsheet program. They can unlock new skills and help you solve difficult problems.
I started conducting Gen AI workshops two years ago (how time flies!) and I have always taught participants to go beyond the “Google Search” approach and use Gen AI in different ways. However, there’s so much more that we can achieve these days with Gen AI chatbots, AI-generated web apps, Agentic AI, and AI animation.
That’s why (drum roll) we’re rolling out the advanced version of The Straits Times Gen AI Masterclass in September. Stay tuned!
