Five months ago, 13 undergrads, along with Samuel He and I, travelled to the border of Thailand and Myanmar, to a town called Mae Sot for the “Going Overseas for Advanced Reporting” (GO-FAR) module at Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information. For the students, it was their first time doing journalism on foreign soil, and there were so many unknowns and challenges to overcome.
Today, on top of putting together a coffee table book called “Displaced”, the students have had 13 stories published in The Straits Times, The Business Times, South China Morning Post SCMP, AsiaOne.com, Mizzima Media, Democratic Voice of Burma.
The results speak for themselves, I couldn’t be more proud of what you have achieved: Sara Bapat, Zachary Lim, Taryn Ng, Anis Nabilah, Emily Ou Yong, Romaine Chan, Toh Tian Ji, Clemens Choy, Lok Bing Hong, Faith Peh, Janelle Ling, Isabelle Chong, Lynn Wen Wen.
Also, thank you to Yiying Ang and Serene LUO for covering our adventures in the ST story “Waist-deep in Mae Sot”.
