From today 3rd July, plastic bags will no longer be free at supermarkets in Singapore.
The Fairprice chain will charge 5 cents for each plastic bag. I don’t think this will change our addiction to using plastic bags, and some people will take the bags without paying.
BUT better some action than nothing! At least this new ruling to drive sustainability has gotten me thinking harder about how I use plastic bags.
It will also remind me to bring my own bag for grocery shopping.I hope this ruling does the same for other people in Singapore.
I wonder… to save our environment, should we ban plastic bags altogether? Is that even feasible, because how else can we dispose of food waste?
Are we doomed to see our seas clogged with plastic material?
