One of the things I never expected Gen AI to do is to clean up a messy computer desktop. This video from Anthropic shows the latest Claude Cowork app in action.
From Claude: “In Cowork, you give Claude access to a folder of your choosing on your computer. Claude can then read, edit, or create files in that folder. It can, for example, re-organize your downloads by sorting and renaming each file, create a new spreadsheet with a list of expenses from a pile of screenshots, or produce a first draft of a report from your scattered notes. Cowork is available today as a research preview for Claude Max subscribers on the macOS Claude app.”
While this is very useful for people with untamed desktops, I will probably never use such a function because I don’t (yet) trust AI to manage my files. I’ve been sorting my files and folders since the 1980s and I know what I want to do with them. Claude Cowork will be more useful in helping me list out the category of files I have to reorganise them.
