“I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The past few days has seen much celebration about and much hate against ChatGPT with its new imaging capabilities.
The Chorus: Gen AI has now allowed anyone with a device to create professional level images.
The Pitchforks: Gen AI has destroyed the careers and expertise of many creators.
Both sides are right, but it’s important for each side to see the opposing side of view. There’s no “you vs me” as this technology is accessible to all, there is no other way but to figure out our next steps.
There are no easy answers, but such is the nature of an Industrial Revolution. My only humble suggestion is that no matter who you are and how you feel about Gen AI, do try a month of paid ChatGPT to access the new imaging engine, and experiment with it to see what it can and cannot do, and how the technology fits into your skill set.
I created the image here using ChatGPT in a few minutes. It is both wondrous and terrifying to know what anyone can do now.
