A new challenger has entered the AI Video ring! Midjourney finally launched its video engine to fight Google Veo and OpenAI Sora. I find that MJ’s videos are in a class of their own because their still images have a unique aesthetic and that translates into beautiful videos.
Here are six iterations on the same theme – wolves in tutus playing violins in the forest. The violin music was generated by Suno. Each video is about 620px in resolution, which is rather low, but the quality of movement and image coherence more than makes up for it.
2025 is the year that AI videos really go mainstream, largely thanks to Google’s Veo 3 engine. However, Veo 3 is really expensive – it’s US$250 a month to generate more than 3 videos a day. Midjourney’s pricing model isn’t final yet, but it looks to be a lot cheaper. I pay MJ about US$10 a month and I’m happy I can now generate some videos as part of the deal. MJ’s videos do not have audio, but that’s fine, since we can always generate the AI audio elsewhere.
