You can now generate a podcast from any content by using Google’s NotebookLM app. Turn up the audio here, it’s two AI-generated voices having a conversation about electric vehicles in Singapore, based on the Wikipedia content that I uploaded.
NotebookLM also lets you query the content that you’ve uploaded. It’s similar to how we upload data to ChatGPT and query it, but Google offers prebuilt templates like “Create a timeline” and “Create a study guide”.
I’ve been teaching Google’s NotebookLM to teenagers in The Straits Times Masterclasses and the app was quite buggy a few months ago. It’s a different beast now, especially with the new podcast feature that is both amazing and worrying. We have AI avatars talking to each other, without any human intervention. I think we’re going to get flooded with podcasts that people don’t want to listen to.
That said, do check out NotebookLM, it’s a good alternative to uploading content to ChatGPT and it’s free for now.
