The results of yesterday’s Gen AI Deepfake test on LinkedIn and Facebook are in: 69% of 51 respondents wrongly guessed that the “real man” was Photo A. Sorry folks, but I generated Photo A with Midjourney.
On the other hand, I downloaded Photo B from Pinterest. I assumed it was a photo of a real person but now I am also not sure because there are so many fake images online.
Please don’t feel bad if you chose Photo A. This test reinforces what I’ve been telling everyone in my Gen AI workshops – the tech is advancing so fast we can no longer tell even if we scrutinize the image closely.
Should we be scared? YES.
Should we decry Gen AI and avoid it? NO!
We should use Gen AI even more so we can understand its capabilities and thus better defend ourselves against threat actors.
