The honeymoon era of Google Gemini for free users is coming to an end. The Flash and Pro models will soon move to paid plans, leaving users with just the Flash-Lite model. In the meantime, free users have not been given access to Gemini 3.8 Flash, but only Gemini 3.6 Flash.
In my AI workshops, 80-90% of participants do not subscribe to any AI plan. I’ve been telling them that they will need to subscribe if they want to do more complex tasks, and the AI companies will force their hand. I don’t get any commission for telling them to invest in their own learning, and it’s their choice whether they want to pay or not.
But really, S$1 a day for Gen AI is very reasonable if you become more productive with it. Just avoid taking a Grab ride or drinking five commercial lattes and voila, you can afford your AI plan for a month.
