CHATGPT SIT REP: ChatGPT hit 400 million users in Feb 2025, that’s about 5% of the world’s population. What’s more stunning is that the last 100 million users were added in just two months (Barclays Research). I won’t be surprised if the 1 billion number is hit within the next 12 months.
The largest percentage of users come from the 25-34 age group (Similarweb). I had assumed it would be those under 25.
I wonder if this could be due to….
- Young adults in the workforce using Gen AI to automate a lot of repetitive work they don’t want to do?
- Companies encouraging / pressurising staff to adopt more Gen AI, and the younger workers are less resistant to change?
- Students reined in by school policies on AI usage?
- Students using other Gen AI apps such as Character.AI or Jasper.AI over ChatGPT?
In another Barclays Research piece, it’s very interesting that the top users of ChatGPT Enterprise come from MARKETING (14%), tied with ANALYTICS (14%) and ahead of ENGINEERING and IT (both 11%).
Marketers – if you are not using ChatGPT, your competitors are.
